The owner of a greyhound rescue centre in Scotland, was left spellbound when Harry Potter author JK Rowling offered to re-home one of her dogs.
Celia Fernie and husband Jimmy, run Greyhound Rescue Fife. Celia had no idea who Ms Rowling was when she arrived with her family to view the abandoned greyhounds.
Celia questioned the woman - who introduced herself by her married name of Mrs Jo Murray - on whether she could provide a loving home for one their dogs, and agreed to allow her to rehome a dog only after she provided photographic evidence that her home had a large garden.
She said she was happy when Mrs Murray told her she would be able to lavish the dog with constant love and attention because she 'worked from home'.
The family chose a Blue breed greyhound bitch named Sapphire to take home. Celia only realised who her visitor was when she asked the the family for a £30 donation to meet the cost of the dog's muzzle, lead, non-slip collar and vaccinations, and was left stunned when the author - whose estimated wealth is more than £545 million - wrote a cheque for £1000 and signed it JK Rowling.
Mrs Fernie said: "When I looked at the cheque, I couldn't believe it. The first thing I noticed was the amount she had made it out for. Then I spotted her name and realised who she was. 'I said "Oh, I didn't recognise you, " and she just smiled politely. She was a lovely woman.'

Judging by the picture, Ol'JK has already bored the be-jesus out of the dog.
Jake Rowling is a pretty cool chick and has a great companion for herself.
Thanks for the link to the greyhound rescue site - I just looked through all the dogs (the ones up for adoption and the Lucky Ones) and it cheered me up on a day when I really need it.
