"tripping"?? What is that. I've never heard of that before...
Does it end with us getting creamed by that oncoming vehicle?

Joe, I actually think, but cannot prove, that the tripping refers to the tree roots. The sheltered aspect is granted by the trees lining the road, and the tree roots have raised the sidewalk by 6 inches in places. Or they could just be stoned.
